Former Special Adviser to the Vice President, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has disclosed that his family paid a huge ransom to secure the release of his nephew who was kidnapped by bandits.

He made the revelation during an interview featured on Arise News while discussing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity crisis.

According to him, the kidnapping incident lasted for 37 days, during which his family was forced into continuous negotiations with the abductors.

Speaking on the experience, he said: “I paid 175 million naira to bandits to release my nephew.”

Baba-Ahmed explained that the payment was made after weeks of daily communication and bargaining with the kidnappers to ensure the safety of the victims.

He noted that despite his position at the time within the seat of government in Aso Villa, the situation proved extremely difficult and emotionally draining.

The former presidential aide said his nephew and two other abducted victims were eventually freed after the ransom was paid.

He emphasized that the experience exposed the severity of insecurity in the country, stressing that kidnapping has become a major threat affecting families across different social and political backgrounds.
