According to report by The Nation on Friday, June 19, 2026, ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, security has been significantly reinforced around the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ado-Ekiti.

When a correspondent visited the commission’s office along the new Ado-Ekiti–Iyin Road on Friday, a strong police presence was observed both within and outside the premises.

Armed officers were strategically positioned at different points, maintaining tight surveillance around the area.

Security operatives also established a roadblock directly in front of the INEC office, where all approaching vehicles were subjected to strict stop-and-search checks.

Motorists were made to slow down while officers carefully inspected vehicles and questioned occupants as part of intensified efforts to prevent any security breach ahead of the election.

Several police patrol vans and personnel carriers were stationed nearby, reinforcing the heavy security deployment.

Officers were also seen monitoring adjoining roads leading to the INEC office to ensure constant situational awareness and rapid response capability in case of any incident.

According to a senior police officer who spoke anonymously, the deployment forms part of broader security arrangements aimed at protecting sensitive election materials and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

He explained that the stop-and-search operations are intended to prevent the movement of arms, prohibited items, or any materials that could disrupt the conduct of the poll.

The officer further assured members of the public that the heightened security measures should not be seen as intimidation.

Rather, he said, they are preventive steps designed to guarantee a safe and orderly environment for voters, electoral officials, and observers during the governorship election.

Meanwhile, officials of INEC were seen making final preparations at the office, indicating that logistical and administrative arrangements for the election are being concluded as voting day approaches.

The atmosphere around the commission reflected a mix of heightened alertness and last-minute coordination as stakeholders prepare for the statewide poll.
