Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and a prominent media entrepreneur, has predicted that the political dynamics in Lagos State could change ahead of the 2027 presidential election, arguing that Labour Party candidate Peter Obi may no longer enjoy the same level of influence that helped him secure victory in the state during the 2023 polls.

Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Nevon HQ while analysing the likely outcome of the next presidential election and the changing political landscape in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Speaking during the interview, he said, “Obi defeated him but I believe Obi’s influence has waned a bit. We do not have the EndSars people following Obi in Lagos right now.”

The veteran journalist was referring to the 2023 presidential election, in which Obi defeated President Bola Tinubu in Lagos State, despite Tinubu’s longstanding political dominance in the state.

The result was widely viewed as one of the biggest upsets of the election and was attributed by many analysts to a combination of youth participation, urban voter mobilisation and the momentum generated by Obi’s campaign.

According to Momodu, however, the political environment has evolved since then. He argued that the level of enthusiasm among young voters, particularly those associated with the #EndSARS movement, may not be as strong as it was during the last election cycle.
