According to a report by The Punch on Sunday, June 14, 2026, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is currently considering a total review of its recently concluded primary election results in several states, including Kano.

This move follows intense internal friction and widespread allegations of irregularities trailing the shadow elections.

Speaking on the brewing tension, the NDC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, confirmed that the party leadership is weighing its options to manage post-primary grievances.

The friction reportedly peaked after loyalists of the former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were allegedly sidelined during the state’s primary elections.

The situation triggered widespread rumors that members of the influential Kwankwasiyya Movement were planning to dump the party entirely.

Abdulsalam revealed that the national leadership, led by Seriake Dickson, acknowledged that specific areas suffered from irregularities.

“If he finds the necessary justification to review certain results across the states, a review is possible,” Abdulsalam stated.

He maintained that any final decision would stem from collective stakeholder consultations rather than unilateral action, emphasizing that party supremacy remains paramount.

The national leadership has already moved to douse the tension, holding a marathon, closed-door meeting with Kwankwasiyya representatives.

This intervention followed accusations from North-West party leaders who claimed Kwankwaso was attempting to dominate the Kano party structure and marginalize non-movement members.

The disagreements, which originally began during state congresses, resurfaced during the nomination process despite a prior power-sharing agreement.

While Abdulsalam downplayed the rift, insisting the dispute has been resolved at the highest level, the outcome of the proposed review remains crucial.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the NDC insists it stands firmly on its core principles of justice, inclusion, and internal democracy.
