BREAKING: Obi Must Choose a Second Fielder Before Presidency, Warns Primate Ayodele: “Without It, You Can’t Become President

In a pointed prophetic counsel that has reignited political discourse, the spiritual leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has advised Labour Party stalwart and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to recalibrate his presidential aspirations by first pursuing a key strategic position, what the cleric described as the role of “second fielder.”

Primate Ayodele’s remarks, issued during a public statement over the weekend, carry spiritual and political implications for Obi’s future in Nigeria’s power landscape.

The cleric urged Obi to resist the temptation of aiming directly for the presidency in the upcoming general elections without first securing a significant political foothold that could serve as a launchpad for future success.

“If Peter Obi wants to truly become president, he must first take the position of second fielder,” Ayodele said. “That is the step he must not skip. Without it, the path to the presidency may be completely blocked.”

The prophecy has stirred conversation among political observers, particularly given the timing just as jostling intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Analysts have interpreted Ayodele’s message as a sober reminder that success in Nigerian politics often comes through strategic alliances, incremental progress, and calculated positioning rather than a straight shot to the presidency.

For Peter Obi, who emerged as a popular third-force candidate in the 2023 general elections under the Labour Party, the advice appears to be a call for patience and political realism.

Despite a strong youth-driven campaign and widespread grassroots support, Obi came in third behind Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While his performance was historic for a non-traditional candidate, it fell short of delivering the presidency.

Ayodele’s use of the term “second fielder” is widely understood by political insiders to refer to a position such as vice president, senate president, or another major role in the country’s political hierarchy, one that provides visibility, national reach, and institutional leverage.

Observers note that Primate Ayodele’s spiritual pronouncements have previously touched on key national issues, and his latest statement may serve as both spiritual insight and strategic advice.

He urged Obi to consider forming alliances that could help him attain such a role, thereby strengthening his national influence and credibility.

In Nigeria’s complex political environment, gaining presidential traction often depends on building coalitions that cut across regional, religious, and party lines.

Analysts suggest that while Obi enjoys widespread admiration, particularly among Nigeria’s youth and in the South-East, his ability to win a national mandate might hinge on forming stronger political alliances and adopting a more pragmatic approach to power.

“Obi’s message of reform and accountability resonates with many Nigerians,” said a political analyst based in Abuja. “But politics is about numbers, and sometimes, timing. What Ayodele appears to be saying is: build your base, gain more experience in top-level government roles, and then re-emerge when the timing is ripe.”

Ayodele’s prophecy also comes as various political actors reposition themselves in anticipation of the 2027 polls.

The Labour Party, while gaining momentum, still faces structural and financial constraints compared to the more established APC and PDP machines.

Though Primate Ayodele’s message is spiritual in origin, it aligns with the views of several commentators who argue that Obi’s path to Aso Rock may depend on a stepwise progression through the corridors of power.

The guidance, they say, is not a dismissal of his presidential potential but a strategic caution against overreaching too soon.

As for Obi himself, he has yet to publicly respond to Ayodele’s message.

However, among his supporters, the prophecy has sparked renewed discussion on whether he should consider accepting a vice presidential offer in a major alliance or taking on a national leadership role ahead of 2027.
