Obunike Ohaegbu, a House of Representatives aspirant for Nnewi North and Nnewi South under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has dismissed allegations linking the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to an alleged demand for a N10 million payment from aspirants seeking elective positions.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Ohaegbu addressed claims made by African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo, who had reportedly accused the NDC presidential candidate of operating what he described as a “criminal enterprise.” Okonkwo also allegedly cited Ohaegbu’s earlier comments as part of the basis for his accusation.

Responding to the claims, Ohaegbu insisted that his previous remarks had been misrepresented and maintained that Peter Obi was never involved in any request for money.

He stated that at no point did he tell Okonkwo that the NDC presidential candidate demanded or instructed him to pay N10 million.

According to Ohaegbu, the person he accused of requesting the payment was the party’s National Secretary.

He explained that while he had mentioned caucus leaders in his earlier comments, those statements should not be interpreted as implicating Obi in the alleged demand.

The aspirant further clarified that he was never part of any meeting, consultation, or discussion where a consensus arrangement was considered.

As a result, he argued that he could not have received any directive from the party’s National Caucus regarding the payment in question.

Ohaegbu reiterated that his position on the matter remains unchanged, stressing that Peter Obi had no connection to the alleged N10 million request.

He said any attempt to associate the presidential candidate with the allegation was inaccurate and did not reflect the substance of his statements during previous discussions on the issue.
