Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has cast doubt on the leadership record of former Vice President , arguing that his performance during the administration of former President did not produce the positive outcome many expected.

Speaking during a recent interview on Channels Television, Lawal reflected on the working relationship between Atiku and Obasanjo while they were in office.

According to him, Atiku was entrusted with significant responsibilities within the government, giving him a substantial role in the day-to-day running of the administration. However, Lawal suggested that despite this level of authority, the relationship between the two leaders eventually deteriorated.

Questioning the outcome of their partnership, Lawal stated, “When Obasanjo gave Atiku the authority to practically run the government, how did they end up? They ended up as friends abi?”

Lawal’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about political leadership, governance, and the track records of key figures in Nigeria’s political landscape. By pointing to the breakdown in the relationship between Obasanjo and Atiku, he implied that the former vice president’s tenure in government should be examined more critically when assessing his leadership credentials.
