A Federal Constituency aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Anambra State, Obunike Ohaegbu, has reiterated his stance amid ongoing controversy surrounding the party’s primaries, distancing himself from allegations involving the party’s presidential candidate. Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Ohaegbu responded to claims made by Kenneth Okonkwo, who had cited his remarks as evidence of wrongdoing within the party.
Clarifying his position, Ohaegbu stated, “I have no personal issue with Mr. Peter Obi and I never accused him of asking for any bribe.” He stressed that his earlier comments had been misinterpreted and taken out of context, leading to misleading conclusions in the public space.
According to him, his concerns were directed at the internal processes of the party, particularly the conduct of the primaries, which he believes lacked transparency and consistency. He maintained that at no point did he implicate Peter Obi in any financial misconduct.
Ohaegbu emphasized that his engagement with party stakeholders was aimed at ensuring fairness and accountability, not to discredit any individual. He added that he remains committed to the ideals of the NDC and the broader goal of strengthening democratic practices within the party.
He concluded by urging party members and the public to focus on verified information, warning against the spread of narratives that could undermine unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
