In a video reported by NBC News on Monday, June 8, 2026, President Donald Trump stated that the conflict with Iran would conclude in one of two ways: through a negotiated agreement or through increased military action. He indicated that, in many respects, using military force might be the simpler option.
Trump made these remarks during an interview with NBC News anchor Kristen Welker at Kuster Farms in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, as he discussed how he envisioned ending the conflict. The comments came while he was speaking about ongoing nuclear negotiations with a new set of Iranian leaders and addressing how the situation might ultimately be resolved.
While he emphasized diplomacy as the preferred approach, he stressed that his patience was not unlimited and noted that a military response was already fully prepared and viable. He presented the decision between negotiation and military action as a practical one, suggesting that launching a military strike could, in some ways, be more direct than navigating the challenges of achieving and enforcing a diplomatic deal.
Trump asserted that the U.S. had already shown its military strength clearly and that any further action would be rapid and decisive.
He added, “I’m going to finish this. But remember, you spent nineteen years in Vietnam because of poor decisions, and you’ve been stuck in so many different countries. Every war dragged on for years. We’ve been there just a few months, and the threat is mostly gone. It will soon be over. I’m going to end it for good.”
