Israeli authorities have recently detained two individuals from East Jerusalem’s Palestinian community on charges related to promoting unrest and aligning with the militant group Hamas.
According to a report by The Times of Israel on September 21, 2025, law enforcement officials made this public announcement to underscore their ongoing efforts to curb potential threats in the region.
The first individual, a man in his thirties employed in hotel upkeep, faced capture due to accusations of producing multiple provocative messages on social platforms.
Among these was a reference to remarks from the late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
In that message, he declared that Hamas pledges its lives, blood, relatives, and children to defend Jerusalem.

He further asserted that no entity known as the State of Israel exists with Jerusalem as its center, and emphasized that Jerusalem remains beyond any commercial transaction, according to authorities.
The second person held, a 46-year-old resident of the same area, came under scrutiny for storing symbols associated with Hamas at his residence.
During a search operation at his property, officers confiscated these items, highlighting the direct ties to the organization.
Both men now remain under custody as investigations proceed, with officials anticipating that legal representatives will soon advance formal accusations of fomenting discord against them in court.
Authorities in Jerusalem have highlighted a series of similar detentions they conducted throughout the city, targeting individuals suspected of activities linked to extremist agitation.
The majority of these cases originated from digital surveillance.
A specialized unit within the local police department, called the Special Awareness Operations Center, played a pivotal role.
Established just before the holy month of Ramadan this year, the center focuses on scanning online spaces for signs of inflammatory content that could escalate tensions.
