Dangote: Our Drivers Earn Four Times Nigeria’s Minimum Wage

Africa’s richest man and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that truck drivers working for his company earn nearly four times Nigeria’s national minimum wage.

Speaking in an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, Dangote dismissed claims that the company’s new trucks would cause job losses, stressing that they would instead create thousands of opportunities.

“The trucks we launched did not stop anyone from working. People say jobs will be lost — are we bringing in robots to drive them? Each truck engages about six people. Altogether, the new trucks will provide around 24,000 jobs,” he explained.

Dangote further noted that the company’s drivers enjoy far better pay than many university graduates and also benefit from welfare packages.

“Our drivers earn almost three to four times the national minimum wage. After five years without accidents, a driver can even qualify for a house loan,” he added.
