A terrifying incident unfolded on Monday night in the Asokoro Extension area specifically in Kpaduma 3 Abuja when gunmen believed to be kidnappers launched a brutal attack on local residences.
According to eyewitness reports the gunmen breached homes and engaged in a prolonged exchange of gunfire with local vigilantes. The encounter said to last several hours was accompanied by intense gunshots and what some described as a grenade like blast causing panic among residents.
Tragically one vigilante identified only as Bako was shot dead during the ordeal. In addition some residents were injured and two young girls were raped.
One neighbour questioned why a specific house was targeted saying that its occupants had previously appealed for better security. They alleged that landlords were asked to make improvements to ensure safety but those requests were ignored.
Efforts to get confirmation from authorities have so far met with silence. FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh was contacted for comment but did not respond to calls or messages.
As of now calm has returned to the community but fear and frustration linger among residents demanding improved security measures visible patrols and quicker police response.
