Ogun State Government has issued a strong warning to land grabbers and individuals illegally occupying government property across the state to desist from such act or face the law.
The warning followed a routine task force operation carried out to curb illicit land activities by the Bureau of Lands and Survey at Ijebu Smart City enclave along the Epe–Mojoda axis, as well as the Government Residential Area, Sagamu and the Hillcrest Estate, Abeokuta on Friday.
Speaking after the exercise, the Special Adviser and Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Segun Fowora, disclosed that several unauthorised developments were discovered during the operations.
He revealed that unlawful individuals had erected numerous illegal structures on unallocated land and designated stream setbacks, adding that it has caused significant distortions to the layout designs with consequential environmental challenges during the rainy season.
He warned that anyone found violating land regulations in the state would be sanctioned and prosecuted, while such lands would be recovered by the government.
Fowora added that such unapproved developments have continued to distort the original plans of these schemes and their surrounding communities, assuring residents that the task force operations would continue.
Making his remarks on the development, the head of the task force, Fatai Adeboyejo, noted that unauthorised persons had encroached on these government schemes with impunity under the pretext that government would ratify the illegal developments.
To avoid demolition, Adeboyejo urged members of the public seeking clarification on land ownership, documentation or related concerns to visit the office of the Director General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, for proper guidiance.
