Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, on Thursday, presented the 2026 budget proposal of N861.337 billion to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a roadmap for transformation and improved governance.
Presenting the proposal before lawmakers in Gusau, the governor said the budget was designed to consolidate ongoing reforms and strengthen development across key sectors.
According to him, the proposal earmarks N714 billion for capital expenditure, representing 83% of the total budget, while N147.28 billion, 17% is set aside for recurrent expenditure.
Sectoral allocations include N65 billion for education, N87 billion for health, N86 billion for agriculture, N45 billion for public order and safety, N22 billion for environmental protection, and N17 billion for social protection.
Lawal said his administration remains committed to restoring public trust, improving service delivery, and laying the foundation for long-term economic and social stability.
“The 2026 Budget of Stability and Growth is not merely a financial plan; it reflects our commitment to stability, inclusive development and continued progress across all sectors,” he stated.
Highlighting fiscal discipline, the governor noted that the proposed recurrent expenditure aligns with international standards for subnational governments, ensuring that operational costs do not impede developmental goals.
He added that the robust capital expenditure component is aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, enhancing security, modernising agriculture, improving healthcare delivery, and expanding access to education, particularly for youth and vulnerable groups.
Governor Lawal urged lawmakers to give the proposal thorough consideration to enable timely passage for effective implementation.
“It is in this spirit of shared responsibility that I submit the 2026 Budget Proposal of Eight Hundred and Sixty-One Billion, Three Hundred and Thirty-Seven Million Naira for your consideration and approval,” he said.
