The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson, has stated why financiers of terrorists in Nigeria cannot be tried in public.
Speaking during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday, Benson said a lot of the financiers are under scrutiny for a very long time now.
According to him, the government was doing everything round the clock to tackle the wave of insecurity in the country.
“The financiers of terrorists in Nigeria cannot be tried in public, a lot of them are under scrutiny for a very long time now.
“By scrutiny, I mean tried and identified. Some of them are local, and some are international. The government has done a lot in recent times. The public cannot know who they are because of security.
“A lot of them can’t think of financing anybody anymore. I can assure you that work is in progress. A responsible government will deal with these people at the appropriate time.
“The government is working; the tracking and the trying of these people. And there’s a lot of international help as well to bring these people to book,” he said.
