Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has declared that Boko Haram terrorists have killed both Christians and Muslims, stressing that it’s not a religious crisis.
Zulum described the Boko Haram crisis as an assault on Nigeria’s civilization and humanity in general.
He made the remark during a meeting with leaders of the Muslim and Christian faith in the state.
According to Zulum, claims that narratives that insecurity situation in the country has a religious colouration is wrong.
He said: “The Boko Haram conflict is not a religious crisis.
“It is absolutely crucial that we collectively dispel all false narratives that seek to portray our security crisis in a religious colouration. Religious conflict is alien to us.
“The perpetrators of violence have killed, maimed, and displaced Muslims and Christians alike. They have destroyed Mosques and Churches with equal impunity.”
He noted that statistics have shown that more Muslims have died and displaced due to Boko Haram activities.
“While every single life lost is regrettable, the data clearly shows that the overwhelming majority of those who have suffered death, abduction, and displacements are our Muslim brothers and sisters,” he added.
The governor said insecurity situation should unite the people of the state.
He disclosed that the reconstruction, resettlement and rehabilitation of victims of insecurity in the state are guided by principles of justice, equity, and inclusivity.
Borno State have always been the theatre for Boko Haram activities but the operations of the Nigerian military has been yielding results lately.
