Taraba: Council chairperson condemns communal clashes, calls for peace dialogue

The Chairperson of Karim Lamido local government Council, of Taraba State, Virginia Baba Bambur, on Monday, condemned the communal clashes that affected several communities within the local government area.

Following the wranglings in the area, a 24 how curfew, as of the time of this report, had been imposed on the local government.

In a statement issued, Bambur described the incidents as “ugly and unfortunate,” listing the affected areas to include Usumanu, Minghe, Garin Galadima, Anguwan Mission Karim, Karim Maundi, Sarkin Kudu, Lewata, Didango, and other surrounding communities.

She assured residents that the local government is working closely with community leaders and key stakeholders to restore calm, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and reconciliation in resolving the crisis.

“The local government is committed to fostering discussions that ensure all voices are heard and respected. It is crucial for everyone involved to engage in constructive dialogue and embrace solutions that promote harmony and progress,” she said.

Bambur noted that efforts are underway to address the underlying causes of the conflict, with the aim of promoting long-term peace and unity among the affected communities.

She also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas’s administration to implementing sustainable security measures and improving the overall quality of life across Karim Lamido.

“By focusing on collaboration and mutual understanding, we can pave the way for a brighter future for all resident., Let us sheath our swords in the best interest of peace.”

She also called on all residents to work together to build a community where peace, stability, and prosperity prevail.
