The South East Electricity Consumers Association, SEECA, has hailed Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State for his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights of electricity consumers in the state.
The commendation follows the formal transfer of regulatory oversight of Anambra’s electricity market to the state government by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
The transfer came after the inauguration of five commissioners on October 9, 2025, to lead the newly established Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Speaking with journalists in Anambra on Monday, SEECA Coordinator, Sebastine Okafor described the licensing of First Power Electricity Distribution Company Limited, FPEDC, as the state’s new electricity distribution company is a welcome development.
He said the move has the potential to significantly strengthen electricity infrastructure and boost industrial growth if effectively implemented.
“Anambra State deserves a more efficient, responsive, and consumer-focused electricity market that will attract investment, expand local industries, and improve service delivery across all communities,” Okafor stated.
He added that FPEDC’s entry into the power sector should herald improved accountability, better customer service, and the deployment of modern energy solutions.
Okafor further urged the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission to prioritize key consumer issues such as metering, tariff transparency, transformer rehabilitation, feeder expansion, and prompt resolution of complaints.
According to him, the success of the new regulatory regime will ultimately be measured by the level of relief and improvement consumers experience in their daily lives.
