PDP visits Kebbi, calls for collective action against insecurity

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, visited Kebbi State to show support to the government and families following the safe rescue of 24 students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, GGCSS, Maga.

The delegation, led by PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, met with Governor Nasir Idris and other state officials at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

The party urged collective action across communities, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic differences, to address insecurity in the state and nationwide.

Turaki highlighted the importance of unity in confronting kidnappings, noting: “A kidnapper does not ask for your party affiliation, language, or religion. Criminals see everyone as a potential target. There is no reason we cannot unite as one people to confront this menace.”

He also called on the National Assembly to review the legal framework for governors as Chief Security Officers, stressing that current limitations hinder their ability to manage security effectively.

Governor Idris’ timely intervention, according to the PDP, contributed to the swift rescue of the students, all of whom were reportedly unharmed. The state government confirmed that the girls have undergone medical checks and have been reunited with their families.

Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida described the visit as a demonstration of cross-party support, emphasizing that national interest must take precedence over political differences.

“This visit shows that our national interest is greater than individual or party considerations,” he said.

The PDP’s visit also included calls for stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies to prevent future attacks and safeguard children’s education in Kebbi State.
