President Bola Tinubu says he is deeply saddened by the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing it as a major loss to Nigeria.
The respected Islamic scholar died on Thursday at about 100 years.
Tinubu, while paying tribute to the late leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, called him a guiding light who spent his entire life teaching, preaching and promoting good values.
He said the cleric’s passing was a heavy blow not only to his family and countless followers, but to the whole country.
The President also remembered the support he received from the late Sheikh during the 2023 election period.
In his words, “Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Quran, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void.”
Tinubu extended his condolences to all followers of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi across Nigeria and in other countries.
He urged them to honour the cleric’s memory by holding firmly to his teachings, living in peace with others, strengthening their connection with God and showing kindness to humanity.
