Attacks on schools may amount to crimes against humanity – Amnesty International

Amnesty International has warned that increasing assaults on schoolchildren, teachers and learning facilities could amount to crimes against humanity under international law.

In a post shared on X on Thursday, the global human rights organisation condemned recent attacks targeting education spaces.

According to them, the attack show an absolute disregard for the right to life and the right to education.

Amnesty International stressed that such violations go beyond ordinary criminal acts.

“Attacks against schoolchildren, teachers and school buildings demonstrate an absolute disregard for the right to life and the right to education. Such attacks may also constitute crimes against humanity as defined in Article 7 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.”
