Kebbi Assembly begins probe into petition against Maiyama LG chairman

Kebbi State House of Assembly has received a petition accusing the Chairman of Maiyama Local Government, Adamu Aliyu Liba, of alleged gross misconduct.

The petition, submitted by the Maiyama Local Government Progressive Union and read during Wednesday’s plenary by the Speaker, Mohammed Usman Zuru, listed multiple allegations against the council chairman.

According to the petitioners, Liba allegedly converted an 18-seater Toyota bus belonging to the council for personal use. He was also accused of failing to complete the electricity supply project from Maiyama to Andarai despite claims that full payment had been made to the contractor.

Other allegations include the reported sale of two caterpillar machines and a fill-loader owned by the local government, as well as the alleged unauthorized sale of almost all plots at the Dadin Kowa Market in collaboration with associates.

After reading the petition, the Speaker referred the matter to the House Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Chief Whip Muhammad Sani Garba Tiggi, with a directive to investigate and report back to the House next week for further legislative action.
