The federal lawmaker representing Aba South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called on President Bola Tinubu to set an example by holding the military commander responsible for the withdrawal of troops from a school in Kebbi, where students were kidnapped.
DAILY POST earlier reported that Governor Nasir Idris alleged that soldiers attached to the school were withdrawn around 3:00 a.m., and the attackers struck less than 45 minutes later.
Also, security expert Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu (Rtd.) stated that the governor’s allegation, that soldiers withdrew from the Maga area shortly before bandits abducted schoolgirls, is too serious to ignore and must be thoroughly investigated.
Shehu made the remarks during an interview with ARISE News on Friday, noting that the incident at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, exposed a major breakdown in Nigeria’s Safe School programme.
According to him, the governor’s public claim that troops stationed near the school were moved less than an hour before the attack “cannot be dismissed with a press statement.”
Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, Abaribe said:
“The governor of Kebbi said that somebody ordered the troops out, and people were kidnapped. Till today, nobody in Nigeria knows what happened. No questions have been asked, and we are sitting down as parliament, talking and talking, yet somebody is responsible.”
