A 28-year-old woman, identified simply as Juliet, has reportedly been beaten to death following a confrontation with an unidentified man in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
Sources told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that the altercation began on Monday after Juliet allegedly smashed the windshield of the man’s vehicle.
According to a resident familiar with the incident, who requested anonymity, the man became enraged and enlisted the help of some local youths, who dragged Juliet to an uncompleted building and assaulted her until she lost consciousness.
The source added that by the time sympathisers arrived to rescue her, she had already passed away.
The source said, “Juliet had issues with a particular man and broke his car windscreen. The man then hired ‘area boys’ to beat her up. They tied her up, took her to an uncompleted building, tortured and molested her, and left her almost dead. Before people could rush her to get help, she gave up.
“I don’t know what made Juliet break the man’s windscreen, and I do not support that at all. But if someone breaks your windscreen, the lawful thing to do is to report to the police — not arrange for their murder.
“This is pure evil, and everyone involved must face the law.”
Another source, a security operative in the area, said Juliet might have been intoxicated during the quarrel, which further provoked the situation after she damaged the man’s car.
The security source added that police officers arrived at the scene soon after and arrested three suspects, including the man’s wife.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the case had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further probe.
Adebisi said, “Three suspects, including two females and one male, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The case, along with the suspects, has been transferred to the State CID, Panti, for further investigation.”
