NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has praised Rivers United for their impressive performance as the Nigerian club qualifies for the CAF Champions League group stage, marking a proud moment for Nigerian football.
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, was all smiles at the Nest of Champions on Sunday as Rivers United sealed their qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage — a major milestone for Nigerian club football.
Gusau, who watched the decisive fixture from the stands, expressed his delight at the team’s performance and praised their resilience in overcoming Black Bulls of Mozambique with a 3–1 victory. The result ensured Rivers United’s progression, making them the first Nigerian club to reach the group stage since 2018.
The NFF President described the achievement as a massive boost for Nigerian football, commending both the players and technical crew led by Finidi George, who also made history as the first Nigerian coach in seven years to guide a local club to this stage.
“This is a proud moment for our country,” Gusau said. “Rivers United have shown true character and quality. Their success reflects the growth of our domestic league and the potential of our players and coaches.”
He also assured that the Federation would continue to provide the necessary support to ensure Rivers United perform creditably in the group stage and represent Nigeria with pride.
Gusau’s presence at the stadium symbolized the NFF’s renewed commitment to strengthening the domestic game and supporting clubs competing in continental tournaments.
With Rivers United’s qualification, the excitement around Nigerian football is on the rise once again — and for President Gusau, it was a day to celebrate resilience, teamwork, and a promising new chapter for the nation’s game.
