2026 WCQ: What Benin coach Rohr said about Osimhen after Nigeria’s 4-0 win

Benin coach Gernot Rohr has spoken highly of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after both teams’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Rohr, who coached Osimhen during his time as coach of Nigeria’s national team, said he was happy that the Galatasaray star has become a world-class striker.

He also hoped the former Napoli star would do well for Nigeria during the World Cup playoffs.

Rohr watched as Osimhen’s hat-trick and a goal from Frank Onyeka gave Nigeria a 4-0 win against the Benin Republic in Uyo.

“We tried, but when you have such a good player like Osimhen,” Rohr said at his post-match interview after the game.

“I remember when I brought Osimhen into the team, he was 17, here in our first game against Tanzania, and he was already in our selection.

“So I am very happy to see him like that, but I’m not happy he did it against me. But I hope he can do it in the playoffs for your country, which I love.”
